Havilah Road Preschool celebrated NAIDOC Week with many engaging activities. During the Week, which took place between 8-15 November, children enjoyed creating paper art flags, painting with natural materials and making symbol drawings.
This year’s NAIDOC Week’s theme was Always Was, Always Will Be, recognising that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.
“How the Murray River was made”, a Bangerang story, was read with the children and discussion followed about the Murray River and its features. The children were fascinated and each child tried to guess its length (2,508 kms!)
The City of Greater Bendigo’s Flag raising ceremony was streamed via Facebook for the children to watch and there were plenty of sticky fingers in the making of a delicious damper. The Preschool embeds Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture into their practice each week, with children actively involved and immersed in the learning opportunities.
