Newstead Preschool

As children play in the creative and nurturing educational environment at Newstead Preschool they discover more about:

  - who they are
  - who they can become
  - others
  - and the world around them.

Relatively small group sizes are a feature of Newstead Preschool. The high staff to child ratio allows a unique opportunity for a quality learning environment.

Positive expectations and a belief in unfolding and fostering the potential within each individual drives the Newstead Preschool Program.

Children are seen to learn best when they feel safe and their knowledge, thoughts, ideas and stories are truly listened to and acted upon. The child’s creativity, imagination, sense of wonder and inquiry are actively nurtured through play based learning experiences.

Facilities and Services

  • Small rural Centre with one large room and a great veranda area.
  • Outdoor area has lots of natural shade provided by trees which reflect the seasons.
  • Large sandpit, and a combination of fixed and movable climbing equipment.
  • Bush Kinder sessions are on Wednesdays. These take advantage of the natural back yard space and the bushland behind the Preschool. Children use tools, explore the natural environment, enjoy campfires and learn to become advocates for our local fauna and flora.
  • A focus on sustainability and the importance of looking after our natural environment.
  • The Preschool grows our own vegetables, herbs and flowers and use these in the kitchen and to decorate the kindergarten room. There are a combination of wicking beds and pots to provide food all year round.
  • Kindergarten chickens provide opportunities for children to learn about caring for animals and the eggs are used for cooking activities.
  • A strong sesnse of community within the Kindergarten, and a connection to the wider community through local excursions/incursions.
