Erica Preschool

Erica Preschool is a remote rural Preschool located at the “Gateway to the Mountain Rivers Region”.

Erica Preschool has the luxury of having an enormous ‘park-like’ playground for our backyard, set on a gentle sloping hillside which gives us views of the farms, bushland and homes surrounding us. We have a strong focus on connecting with nature at our Preschool and are very excited to be offering a weekly "Bush Kinder" program.

Our vision for the Preschool is:

A Natural Environment for the Children to Learn in

It’s common to see children climbing trees, running barefoot, digging in the dirt and watering our wonderful veggie patch.

Confident, Capable, Caring Children

Children are given access to a wide range of materials and encouraged to make choices and decisions that express their own individuality whilst learning new skills.

Educators ensure children adhere to our guidelines of being safe and being kind at all times. The reasons for these guidelines are discussed with the children throughout the program.

Child Focused Program

Educators work with families to create a program that challenges each child as well as exploring their individual interests.

Connection with Community

Educators value and seek input from the wider community – parents, local families and local services to enhance our Preschool program.

This includes visits from: the local school children and teachers, our parents, the local police, CFA, DELWP staff (who join us at Bush Kinder), Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter staff, Red Cross, Shire Environmental staff and more. We get out into our community most weeks, taking herbs and flowers to sell at 1914, our local cafe. We visit the playground and mobile library truck and enjoy a great relationship with all the Erica businesses.

Bush Kinder Program

The Preschool runs a weekly Bush Kinder Program which allows the children to spend time outdoors learning about plants, animals and life in the Australian Bush.

See here for an article about Erica Preschool's Bush Kinder Program.

Tracey Coutts

Hi, I’m Tracey Coutts and I’m the Preschool Teacher/Educational Leader. I hold a Diploma of Teaching in Early Childhood Development.  I've been teaching at Erica since 2006 and I just love it... the gorgeous surrounds, the huge yard for the children to explore, the lovely families and especially the beautiful children. I’ve taught in a range of settings before coming here, including Childcare in inner city Melbourne and the suburbs, rural Preschools and I have also been a Director of a Childcare Centre on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

I absolutely love the small class size here which gives us so much one-on-one time with the children. We are able to extend the children’s interests, usually right away, as we have the time and freedom to do so.  I feel very lucky to be working in such a wonderful Preschool and look forward to the year ahead getting to know your child.

Laurelee Stray

Hi, I'm Laurelee Stray and I've been working as an Educator at Erica Preschool since 2005. I have four grown children of my own and am now enjoying being a grandparent too. I love working here and watching the children achieve their goals. It's lovely to see their excitement at being able to use the scissors for the first time or get all the way across the monkey bars.

I hold a Certificate III in Children’s Services.
